"The Silver Lining is an entrancing odyssey into a melodic world of formless objects and closed eye visuals" were the words of one listener in reaction to their first hearing The Silver Lining, second solo ep by multi-instrumentalist David Martin.
This display of sounds drifts from lo-fi field recordings to atmospheric soundscapes, all the while supported by and array of unlikely sounds emitted by a group of electric, classical, and prepared guitars. Containing touches of inspiration from artists such as MGR, Vangelis, and Buckethead, the album is full of overlapping waves of melody. Layers build and build upon simple themes until the listener is suddenly in a completely separate place from which they began. It is this metamorphosis of sound that draws us in, and makes this piece such a truly satisfying listen.
To enjoy the full effect of the music, listen in a quite, undistracted area on quality speakers or headphones.
